How Long to Cook Diced Beef in 0an for a Curry
Jump to Recipe
Easy beef curry recipe that's super simple to make. Tender slowly cooked braising steak in a rich, mildly spiced tomato sauce. A budget friendly, tasty dinner recipe all the family will love.
Our easy beef curry recipe is a sort of mash up between a curry and a slowly cooked oven baked stew. The result is delicious tender beef in a lovely thick, mildly spiced tomato sauce.
And it's so easy to make!
I use a blend of spices to create a tasty curry flavour – a mixture of ground cumin, turmeric, ground coriander and red chilli flakes. I stir garam masala through the curry towards the end of cooking.
If you don't want to buy a whole lot of different spices then buy yourself a pot of mild or medium curry powder and a pot of garam masala for a similar style taste.
What To Serve With Curry
Our easy beef curry is super versatile for an easy midweek meal try serving with plain boiled basmati rice or even a heap of creamy mashed potatoes.
If you want to make a more special dinner then serve with Indian style breads – like naan or chapatis, a selection of Indian style dips, mint cucumber raita, mango chutney and a pile of crunchy popadoms.
I always like to serve curry with a spicy, zingy fresh salad – try our Indian Salad Recipe here.
Can You Freeze Curry?
Absolutely – just cool and store the leftovers in an air tight container or tip into a freezer bag. Freeze for up to a month – I usually freeze leftovers and add to my meal plan to eat the next week.
How To Reheat Curry
To reheat the curry place it in a saucepan on the hob and warm slowly to a boil – then simmer for around 10 minutes or until the food is piping hot and heated properly throughout.
You can also reheat this in the microwave in a suitable container until the food is heated properly.

How To Make Easy Beef Curry
- Preheat the oven to 180C
- Peel and finely dice the onions
- Peel and finely grate the ginger and garlic
- Add the sunflower oil to a large skillet casserole pan – one that you can use on the hob and in the oven is best as then you don't need to pour the beef curry into an oven proof dish from the pan.
- Gently sauté the onions for around 5 minutes over a medium heat.
- Add the grated ginger and garlic to the pan and continue to cook for another couple of minutes.
- Tip in the diced braising steak and brown the meat over a medium heat.
- Once the braising steak is browned it's time to add in the spices.
- Tip in the cumin, coriander, turmeric and red chilli flakes
- Stir everything together and cook over a medium heat for a couple of minutes.
- Tip in the two tins of chopped tomatoes
- Half fill one of the empty tomato tins with water and then empty that into the curry too.
- Season with salt and black pepper
- Mix everything together, cover the pan with a tight fitting lid and then put in the oven for around 1 hour 45 minutes or until the beef is very tender and the sauce thickened.
- Once the beef is cooked and mouthwateringly tender and falling apart, remove the beef curry from the oven.
- Tip in the natural yogurt and the garam masala
- Stir the natural yogurt and garam masala into the beef curry
- Return the beef curry to the oven and continue to cook for a further 15 minutes whilst you cook the rice and get any side dishes ready.
Make Our Easy Beef Curry Recipe in the Slow Cooker
You can absolutely make our easy beef curry recipe in the slow cooker – get a large saucepan then just sauté the onions, garlic and ginger – add the beef and brown, tip in spices/curry powder add the tomatoes and water and then bring to a gently boil on the hob – then transfer to the slow cooker.
Cook on low for around 8-9 hours
If the beef curry needs thickening then do this with a couple of tsp of cornflour mixed into a paste with cold water and then stirred through the curry and heated through.
